I am so excited about giving gifts this year, I’ve got a B-I-G surprise in store for Chris. I can’t wait to see the look on his face when he opens it! I just love that bursting-at-the-seams excitement that I get when I figured out something particularly thoughtful to give to someone. What are your Christmas gift-giving plans? Do any of you have plans to give the gift of love and appreciation (aka a really special letter)?
I’m doing a unique giveaway here this week. One lucky, random commenter will win a hand-written note transcribed by me! What does this mean, exactly? It means the winner will email me the text for the letter, I’ll hand write the sentiments in calligraphy on special stationery and send it off in a special envelope to that special someone. I think this is a great idea, especially for those loved ones that may be far away and/or overseas serving our country.

this is such a cool, creative giveaway!
what an amazing gift. i would adore something like this. and if i don’t win, what would you normally charge for something like this? i’d love it anyway. allsmiles.photography@gmail.com
This is so much fun. I’ve loved calligraphy ever since I was little and I watched my sister do it. : )
what a lovely idea! i would send it to my husband, and it would be utterly and hopelessly sappy!
My husband loves calligraphy. I don’t have the patience for it, but he does. I would send a note to my grandma. She loves to correspond, and I’m so terrible at it. I really should be better since she won’t be around for long.
I can’t believe you can do that by hand! My handwriting is like chicken scratch! This is such an amazing giveaway. I’d love to do this for my husband!
I love your calligraphy and creativity. I admit I don’t comment as often as I should. I’ll work on that! I would love to send a note to my sweetheart!
Oh me me me me!!!
I love this idea. I would send it to my friend in Texas who has always been there for me and is one of those friends who you can laugh with non-stop even in the toughest of times. It’s hard to find great friends and I know he would appreciate and enjoy something like this…thoughtful and creative. :)
What a unique gift! I love caligraphy and yours is so beautiful!
I love the idea, pick me!!
i’ve been practicing my calligraphy, it’s more of a talent of patience :) I love this idea, I would send a note to my mother or grandmother.
I would send a note to my grandmother, this is her last Christmas on earth due to some end stage cancer and I’ve been having a hard time thinking of something lovely and heartwarming to give her.
What a WONDERFUL idea! I really hope I win, since I live so far away from all of my family! If not…do you have a price for doing a similar thing?? Yay!
Beautiful Melissa!! Sign me up.
I’m so jealous of your calligraphy skills! I can do the typical stuff, but yours is so unique and gorgeous.
I’m not sure what I’d like you to write, but I’m thinking something for my/my husband’s bedroom, like maybe the vows we wrote for our wedding–that is if I can find them up in the attic!
Thanks so much for sharing your creativity Melissa.
Melissa- what a fantastic gift idea. I can think of a few people who are really hard to find the perfect present for (namely my husband or my parents).
I took a calligraphy class at BYU with a really hard teacher. I have always loved fonts and writing. I was even fond of my lettering. I thought it would be a fun and easy class. I was WRONG. I had no idea that it had math involved (at least my anal teacher involved loads of it). I just came across one of my projects today from that class. It gave me knots in my stomach just looking at it.
That was really long just to say- I love your work and admire it. I’d love to win! ;)
Oh, goodness… I would love to see you write the name of my blog… that sounds lame but I bet it would make a lovely header…
I would send it to my husband and it would totally be mushy/sappy … I love to see him squirm with the yucky love stuff!
such a good idea!
Thanks for the opportunity! I love your calligraphy, its gorgeous!
No husband would be more excited than Mike to receive something like this. So you know you have to choose me.
This is such a great idea, thanks for sharing your talents!
I can think of a few people who would appreciate this. What a lovely idea, Melissa.
This is so neat. I would love to have a quote done up so I can frame it.
I would send a beautiful note to my mother-in-law. My husband’s father passed away yesterday.
I am sooooo in love with this idea! My letter would go to my MIL… I have the best, and I mean B-E-S-T mother in law in the world!
I would give it to my bf, and it would be sappy and funny! As always, thanks for the chance :)
Oooooo, I would choose to have my favorite love letter written in hand as opposed to the modern day email form it came in :) It feels timeless to me and should look that way, too.
Thanks for the contest!
what a great giveaway! if i won, my letter would be to my mom, and very sentimental :)
Great idea for giveaway! I think I might use that for a friend who is a missionary in China. She would be stoked!
This is fun. I am hoping you’ll be interested in helping me promote this new online journal my friend started. I’ll email you about it. Meanwhile, I hope I win!
How cool! I love this idea! My neighbors growing up had a guest bedroom that was a love note theme…they had wallpaper full of love notes and a typewriter overlooking a window…it was magical!
i would send it to my husband, my hero. and it would be sappy and sweet. i can never tell him enough how much i adore and appreciate him. it would be a serious gush fest.
i would have it sent to one of my best friends heidi, who was my roommate last winter when she suffered from a brain amerism (kinda like a stroke), and has had to learn to walk and talk all over again at 20 years old. She is my inspiration.
What a fun idea! Even though I live with him, I think I would send the letter to my wonderful husband.
My sister brought me to your site – Awesome!! :o)
I would love to send a letter to my wife.
oooooooooooooooooooh! i need your handwriting help! we’re getting married on new years so we’re getting “creative” gifts for eachother to save $$. this would be super special.
what a fun idea!
I love this! My letter would definitely be sappy. I’m almost crying thinking about it. I’ll tweet this and put it on my blog.
Oh, I would totally use this for something sappy. My fiance thinks I write the…. well… worst love letters because I cripple myself by over-thinking them. But maybe if it were PRETTY!
I love calligraphy. I took a class some time ago and I had so much fun!
I have so much to say… alas I am cursed with terrible penmanship. help me sketch my words of love.
I would absolutely love to send something this beautiful to my grandmother who will be moving into a nursing home withing the next few months. Her Alzheimer’s has progressed and my grandfather is no longer able to care for her so I would love for her to always see my kind words in a lovely writing.
i love this idea! mostly because i love your calligraphy!
I LOVE your calligraphy!
So cute!! I wish I had your talents!
I would love to send such a beautiful letter to someone. I’d make it sweet.
This is very cool – I offered the same in Arabic at one point, but I was swamped and had to stop ..
