My Favorite Sticky Buns Recipe

Gosh, nearly two months ago I was invited to a Rhodes Rolls blogger event where a bunch of us sassy ladies got together & dished while we learned about all the fun things we could do with their frozen bread. It was such a great time. I definitely learned a few new things about their dough: how to make a kaiser bun, how to make a flower sculpture & about Rhodes’s no fault policy – if their dough doesn’t work for you, they’ll gladly replace it for free! I have yet to make a kaiser bun, but I feel pretty awesome knowing that I can.

For me, Rhodes rolls reminds me of Sunday dinners, Christmas & birthdays. My mom started making sticky buns for Christmas (the most delicious dessert breakfast ever!) and now I make sticky buns for every birthday. They’re SO caramely & delicious. You’ve got to try it, if you haven’t yet! Here’s my mom’s recipe:

Sticky Buns

makes about 20 rolls (aka feeds 2 people ;))

  • 20 frozen rolls
  • 1 cube butter
  • 1/2 package butterscotch pudding mix (not instant)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • cinnamon, nutmeg & pecans

Spray bundt pan & drop in frozen rolls. Pour melted butter over rolls. Mix pudding, brown sugar, cinnamon & sprinkle over rolls. Sprinkle with pecans. Cover Loosely with foil, let stand 8 hours. Bake at 350º F for 25 minutes with foil on top. Remove foil & bake 5 more minutes. Let stand for about 5 minutes. Invert onto plate & serve.

What a great giveaway! Our birthday tradition is homemade birthday cake, for sure! And also, usually a trip to Toy’s R Us as a family outing. I’ve been experimenting with bread making over the past year, so this would be so fun to win!

I’ve never tried Rhodes. Your recipe looks delicious, and I’m planning to try it.

I love Rhodes rolls! They are great for everything – especially pulled pork sandwiches! mmmmm.
For birthdays we just do the traditional go to dinner wherever the birthday girl/boy wants to go. But when I was little my mom would buy us our favorite cereal and that’s how we got to start the special day.

rhodes rolls have always been our tradition for general conference weekends! but birthdays…the special bday boy or girl gets to pick the breakfast/dinner meals and eat off the “special” red plate!!

This would make the holidays a bit easier! Splendid!

Growing up, my mom would decorate the most beautiful cakes for our birthdays. They were always a work of art. Thanks for the giveaway!

I love Rhodes rolls:) Bday traditions usually entail a home made secret family recipe red velvet cake (which was first made for me by my MIL 9 years ago for my 19th bday and I fell in LOVE). Just made those sticky buns conference weekend, delish!

We used to pick our fav restaurant to gather at on each of our birthdays, but sometimes it’s easier (and always cheaper) to do a dinner at home. Either way it’s great to get together with family.

    9. Pixie A says:

Birthday traditions always include a home-baked cake and singing “Happy Birthday!”

    10. Laurel G says:

oh wow those look amazingly yummy. Cupcakes are our B day tradition!

Oh my gosh! I LOVE RHODES!!! Their rolls are THE best. These rolls are always part of our family holiday traditions. After turkey, Rhodes rolls are the 2nd thing put onto my grocery list for Fall/Winter holidays and also any other family tradition meal. Rarely do we have any left over either.

Our family traditions for birthdays are that the birthday boy/girl gets to choose thier favorite restaurant where we will go eat. This is about the only family dinner we don’t cook at home. All holidays the kids that live nearby always come home to Mom’s(me) house because they all know there will be enough food to feed a small army. (I LOVE cooking and kinda go overboard cooking for any holiday. You should see my kichen on New Years Eve. lol)

I’ve never had Rhodes – I think I need to! In my family, birthdays mean the birthday boy or girl gets to pick out a cake for me to bake! As I get braver and more confident, I plan to show them Dorie Greenspan’s book and have them pick out a recipe for me to try!

    13. Suzy says:

We get an ice cream cake!

    14. Tamara says:

I’ve never tried Rhodes rolls, but they look divine. I keep keep our family traditions alive by making homemade cakes everyone’s birthday.

    15. April T. says:

Our birthday food tradition, is breakfast in bed. When we were young our parents would always wake us up in the morning singing happy birthday and bringing in our favorite breakfast on a tray. My brother and sister always got pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage…the works. But my favorite breakfast was always a bagel or crossaint with a smoothie. We still try to carry on this tradition as adults by going to breakfast together on birthdays.

    16. tvmom says:

we always have gingersnaps this time of year to celebrate the holidays!

    17. Bryn says:

We always pick a favorite meal and then we do cake or pie for dessert!

    18. Lindsey says:

Love Rhodes… My aunt used to work there so family functions always had amazing rolls and sweets. Love the ease of them… Holiday’s get a little busy.

    19. LeAnna says:

I’ll never forgot a birthday when I was little when my Mom made a caterpillar-shaped cake. My birthday usually fell on election day (or around there), but my parents always tried to put aside politics to just celebrate, and that made it special no matter what the food was!

    20. peggy scott says:

Memories always include food like sticky buns!

    21. Bekah says:

How delicious! Yum! My mom always let us pick out a sugary cereal (since we didn’t get those normally) for breakfast on our birthday. It was fun!

    22. Nicole says:

I love rhodes rolls! I’ll try this recipe thanksgiving. Thank You!

    23. Lisa Juliet says:

In my family, birthdays involve going out to dinner and coming home to an iced cake using a family recipe that’s been passed down a few generations. Simple and fun :)

    24. Anne says:

Our birthday tradition is to have a big family dinner on Sunday and finish off with a homemade chocolate sheet cake with homemade chocolate frosting. So good.

    25. Ashlee says:

Breakfast in bed, For MY birthday? Rhodes 30 mins cinnamon rolls. they taste great and easy for my husband and kids to make (since I don’t like to make my own birthday breakfast!)

    26. marymary says:

We rarely had cake for birthdays, since cake wasn’t a favorite for most of us. We got to choose whatever kind of treat we wanted, so I usually had a birthday pie. I remember birthday brownies, birthday doughnuts, birthday rice krispie treats — all with candles of course.

    27. […] They’re my saving grace since I can’t make bread to save my life. Since I’ve blogged (and made) my favorite sticky buns before, I thought I’d try a new sweet bread. Rhodes’s […]
