Activity Contest & Giveaway

Knock knock just recently sent me a few parenting products that they just added in stock, that I love. Since I started blogging over 4 years ago, I stopped journaling. That’s a pretty big deal since I’ve been semi-regularly journaling since I was 6. My very first journal entries were all practically the same (which I find so hilarious). Why did I think it was so important to journal that I had breakfast?

Roughly translated, here’s what it says:

Sunday 4-1991 (I was 6 1/2). Today we ate breakfast, and then we ate lunch. We went to church. Today it is ma may. Today we went to school. I went to go home. I got a snack. I got (something). I watched TV. I loved watching TV.

May 1991  Thursday is May. My mom had her birthday today. I gave mom a note on Peggy’s birthday. Mom had a happy birthday. We had a good breakfast.

Gosh, I can’t believe that was 20 years ago this month!

Whenever Penelope does something funny, I often think oh I’ll remember this forever. Of course that’s never the case. I was overjoyed to get Knock Knock’s parenting journal. It’s full of hilarious quotes & it focuses on the imperfections of parenting. The front cover really says it allundefined

Since receiving the journal I’ve written in it pretty much every other night; if not, every night. It’s great to document all of the Penelope-isms & track Felix’s growth. Oh, Felix ROLLED OVER today. WHA? Penelope didn’t roll over until she was at least six months. I’m in trouble.

Knock Knock also sent along Parenting Flash Cards (so hilarious & the perfect gift for first-time parents) and a Let’s Pretend Pad. Chris & I  just laughed & laughed while we read the parenting flash cards. They’re hilarious!

I’m not sure if Penelope is old enough to play with the Let’s Pretend pad, but after she seemed so interested in air stories last night, I might give it a try soon. Just barely I’ve started telling air stories to Penelope; it was something that my parents did for me as a kid. I loved those! Basically my parents would sit at the foot of our beds & we’d all contribute to a made up story. It was so fun!

Knock Knock was so nice to send these goodies my way & offer to sponsor a giveaway. I gladly accepted for a few reasons:

  • I love everything Knock Knock
  • I need a journal
  • I want you to share your playtime activities with me

Yeah, I need ideas for things to do with Penelope. We’re in a rut these days. All we ever do is go to the park, run errands or watch TV together. Every once in a while I’ll bust out the paints or playdough, but other than that, our days are pretty boring.

SO, if you’re interested in some free Knock Knock stuff, I’d want your best ideas for fun activities to do with 3 year olds. Let the best idea win! Here are the contest guidelines:

  • Check out knockknock.biz – they’ve got cool gifts & organizational products for parents & (non-parents, too). What’s your favorite item?
  • Comment, leaving your best idea for a fun, kid-centered activity
  • Comment on THIS POST by Tuesday, May 3, 11:59pm MST
  • Only 1 (one) comment per person
  • No need to be a parent to enter
  • Open to US residents only
  • 1(one) winner will be chosen by me & announced Wednesday, May 4

I’m sure It’ll be super hard to decide on a best idea, I know. I’ll be featuring my favorite ideas here as I do them with Penelope & let you know how they go! Thanks for your ideas in advance!

Legxicon Tights Review & Giveaway *CLOSED*

This post is brought to you by legxicon tights.

Again, you know how picky I am about tights. After reviewing tights for Hanes, I was so glad to hear I’m not alone in my tight snobbiness! Shortly after the review, Legxicon asked me to try out some of their tights to see how I felt about them. Gladly I accepted!

Legxicon has a wide variety of printed tights, which immediately piqued my interest. Do you see the above tights? They’re perfect for jazzing up my boring black dress. Oh, and by the way, this is the maternity dress that Chris hates, if you wanted to know. He hates the polyester & thinks it’s a witch dress. I love it. It was my mom’s or at least I think it was. I rescued it from the Scott family dress-up pile years ago.

I love these tights for their subtlety. Mixing & matching prints & patterns is so “in” right now, these tights while patterned are so perfect for pairing with even the busiest of prints. I also liked how surprisingly thick they were. I’m not seeing runs any time soon.

Seamed tights are the BEST! They instantly add a touch of vintage flair to any outfit. I have a similar pair from Victoria Secret, but they don’t compare. The waistline on my old pair is high, tiny (who has an 18″ waist these days?) and not stretchy. Legxicon’s waistband is soft, generous & low.

I thought I’d try out some leggings as well, and I love them! They’re a tad on the sheer side for me, so I wore black leggings underneath in this outfit. They’re stretchy, comfortable, rouched at the bottom and did I mention comfy? So comfortable, in fact, I wore them to bed the other night.

I’m very impressed with the quality, style & fit of Legxicon tights & leggings. I’ve had a lot of fun pairing outfits with them and I think you would, too! Legxicon is offering one lucky reader their choice of two pairs of tights. I know you’ll all fall in love as I have. Here’s how you can win:

  • Visit Legxicon’s site, check out their tights & sign up for their newsletter (at the bottom right) – it’ll automatically enter you in their monthly drawing for a pair of free tights!
  • Leave a comment on this post telling me what tights are your favorite
  • This contest is open for US residents only
  • Only one (1) comment per person
  • Comment by 11:59pm (MST) Thursday, October 28, 2010
  • No purchase necessary
  • One (1) winner will be chosen via random.org & announced Friday, October 29, 2010

Good luck!!

Thrifty & Chic: Striped Skirt

This post is brought to you by DownEast Basics.

DownEast Basics sent me some cute new clothes to review this week. I didn’t think they would show up as fast as they did, but sure enough, I was able to sport my new skirt and fancy bracelet at church last Sunday. I think I looked pretty snazzy.

Outfit details:

Top: Ann Taylor Loft
Necklace: Forever 21
Bracelet: DownEast Basics
Skirt: DownEast Basics
Shoes: Sesto Meucci, thrifted

I’ve got two words for this outfit: nautical & patriotic. I’m not sure it’s possible to wear true blue and white without pairing it with another primary color. Are you the same way? I have a pair of gold heels that I think would go marvelously with this skirt. I may just have to wear this skirt two Sundays in a row. Gasp!

Here’s what I love about this skirt: it’s form-fitting in all the right places, the waist is high, the skirt is straight, it’s fully lined, and it shows just a little leg. I’m not sure it’ll be a summer staple because I’m notoriously terrible with anything white, but this will be in pretty quick rotation guaranteed.

This book could be yours. . .

Last week, I wrote about hosting a little friendly contest over at IS•LY’s flickr group, and I’m totally serious about it. Seriously, serious.

Here’s the deal. . . I really want you to post your handmade projects (whatever they may be) in the flickr pool. Seriously, I just get so excited to see what other people are making, and how creative you guys are! Please show me! So if you show me something you’ve made, and I’m just in love with it, I’ll send you this hand-bound book and some hand-drawn/designed stickers. Sounds like fun, right? So this month, only one winner will be chosen, and I will announce that winner next Wednesday, March 3rd.

Here are the contest details:

  • Items must be made and photographed by you (unless you’re the one modeling the handmade item – but please, don’t hire a professional).
  • Photos must be uploaded and added to the flickr group by Sunday February 28, 2010 at 11:59pm MST.
  • Judging is subjective and as non-biased as possible. Entries will be judges by yours truly & Susan Petersen.
  • (1) Winner will be announced March 3, 2010.
  • International entries are allowed.
  • Multiple entries are encouraged.
  • Comments on this post are NOT entries.
  • To enter, join IS•LY’s flickr group (click here) and add your photos to the pool.

Bonnes Chance, everybody.

Next month’s prize is going to be even awesomer, by the way. ;)

Happy Birthday!
