While browsing the internet I came across an absolutely adorable online children’s clothing boutique. I can’t remember how I found it, or where to find it, but the sweet outfit stuck in my mind. I can’t really describe it, which is truly a travesty.
I was thinking of buying another DownEast Basic from work to make the outfit, but then Chris wisely reminded me that I have PLENTY of abandoned long-sleeve shirts that I could put to good use. He was right. Buying a new shirt would’ve completely defeated the purpose of my current “make do & mend” mantra.
I was far too impatient to take a before photo because I started the project 20 minutes before showtime (aka church). Luckily, I did manage to find a picture of me wearing this shirt. Unluckily, the photo is absolutely terrible. U-G-L-Y. If your curiosity is just killing you, click here to see it. It’s too awful to post the full image on here, but not embarrassing enough to keep to myself.
I’ll certainly do things differently for next time, and there surely will be a next time. I was pretty sloppy with measurements, sewing and finishing, but it still turned out rather cute. It’s amazing what you can get away with when your model is just the most adorable thing on the planet.
love – love – love! this is SO creative. it baffles me that you just “threw it together in 20 minutes.” and, she’s darling :)
I LOVE this! One day when I have a daughter I will have a ton of cute things to make. Oh, I need to learn to sew better too.:)
She is so adorable. Her personality shines through in these photos (and all the other photos I’ve ever seen on her)!
super cute! and penelope is adorable.
oh, and you are in a bit of an awkward position in your pic but somehow you still manage to look cute. not fair!
You’re far too kind. I think that photo is terrible.
You’re right- the shirt makes a much better dress. It is super cute on your sweet P!
I just found your blog and it is freaking rad. Just added it to my faves and I will be spending the next hour looking through your old posts. SO fun.
Umm… how’d you do that? I have a ton of old shirts that I could repurpose but I have no idea how!!
Great idea though!
