Ruche sent me the Under the Aztec Sun dress back in May and of course I instantly fell in love with the color & the print. This coral/orangey color is perhaps one of my favorites at the moment. Plus, I think it’s one of those fashionable colors that my pale skin tone can handle.
It’s a short dress, which is perfect for pairing with leggings (or alone, if you dare). I don’t own or wear many smocked tube tops, so I found myself adjusting quite often to keep the top in place. Maybe this is only a struggle for the small-chested? I really have no idea.
After wearing it one time, the smocking started coming undone. Huge let down, no? I emailed Ruche letting them know what happened & this was their response: “If customers ever receive defective merchandise, we encourage them to e-mail us and we’ll help them out. We always issue a prepaid return label (so they don’t have to pay for return shipping) and either replace the item or issue a complete refund.”
That’s so great to know. Often times online shopping can be a big quality gamble & I love that Ruche stands by their clothing. The smocking issue seems like a complete fluke to me as all of the Ruche clothing I’ve received or purchased has been top-notch. That said, I opted to keep the dress & fix it myself. I decided I wanted to trim down the smocking & wear it as a skirt, so it’d be no big deal to fix the smocking while doing so.
I went back & forth on whether or not I should sew a legit waistband onto it, but ultimately I like the option of still being able to wear it as a tube dress/top if my heart so desires.
This is the complete opposite from the time when I bought a orange swimsuit online that ended up being completely see-through! YIKES. I ended up making the return, but I had to pay for shipping to return the item, plus they didn’t refund the original shipping. It wasn’t that big of a deal, but I still never shopped there again.
Bottom line is, Ruche has fantastic customer service. And customer service is king, in my humble opinion. Ruche wants to offer a lucky reader a $40 gift certificate to their shop! Here’s how to enter:

I actually had a great customer service experience with Blowfish shoes today– I bought a pair of boots on sale a few days ago (~$40) and then last night I discovered that they were now part of the buy TWO pairs for $40 promotion! So I called them, thinking they’d just tell me to suck it up since I ordered them last week and the boots were sold out by today. Instead, William (AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE) helped me figure it out and i wound up getting the second pair as if I’d bought the two together during today’s sale!

Just saw your note on UTBM, what a great giveaway! My best customer service story is about Chaco’s. They have great sandals to start with, a lifetime quality guarantee on shoes! But I ordered some right before a trip to Hawaii, they arrived and I had less than 24 hours before I left. When I put them on I realized that where the straps were sewn together there wasn’t any bobbin thread, and the shoes were falling apart. I called Chaco’s, they told me to overnight the shoes to them, with a copy of the receipt in the box so they could reimburse me. Then they fixed my shoes and overnighted them to my hotel in Hawaii. They arrived about 5 hours after I did. And they sent me an additional free pair of sandals for all the trouble. I will never buy another pair of sandals, because I now have two with a lifetime warranty, but I tell everyone that they are the greatest company in America!
I would love a new dress or skirt. They have a bunch of cute options!
As I am sure you know, pregnancy certainly changes one’s body. Although I have managed to get back into some of my old clothes, sadly, my options are still pretty limited. Ruche is totally my style and I would use the gift certificate to supplement some of the clothes I can’t wear anymore.

I once bought a dress that I LOVED, and it started falling apart on my body the first time I wore it – at work! The fabric was just shredding into threads. When I brought it back to the store they gave me a hard time because it was “damaged” and didn’t want to let me return it! It was obvious that I couldn’t have done anything to cause the fabric to fall apart. I had to fight and ask for a manager who eventually let me return it but only for store credit. Such a nightmare! It’s so great to know that Ruche stands by their merchandise and helps their customers if a problem ever arises. And in a friendly way!
My husband and I recently stumbled across a new Indian restaurant in town and it was FABULOUS! It was a Sunday afternoon and there weren’t too many patrons so we got special attention. Our server discussed the menu with us and made some great recommendations. The portions were just the right size and the presentation was perfect. The dessert was so scrumptious that my husband tricked me into “sharing” mine. When the server found out, she had the cook make me my very own and he brought it out to me! On our way out, they handed us a few coupons.
We’ve been raving about this new restaurant ever since!
