Love for Emily Pop Up Shop | FREE CALLIGRAPHY

I don’t give away my calligraphy services for free. But when I do, it’s with good reason. On August 9th I will be participating in a Pop-Up Shop near Thanksgiving Point for Emily Meyers and her family. I’ll be setting up shop and doing calligraphy in exchange for donations. I’ll have a collection jar for donations and all of it will go towards Emily and her sweet family. 100%! I’ll have book marks, flat cards and 5×7 paper for quotes, names, inspirational words and more. I’ll be lettering your requests on-site.

If there’s a word, short phrase or name you’ve always wanted in fancy pen and ink, now’s the time to get it done! I’ll have a few cards and things calligraphed ahead of time as well. See the map below for location details! See you there!

Teaching calligraphy is my jam. I truly love igniting that passion for letters in other people and helping them understand how letter forms work, how the materials work together and helping them explore their own identity through letters and words. Teaching online is pretty much all I do these days, but I jump at any chance I have to teach in-person. If you’ve missed my live classes, check out calligraphy.org. It’s the next best thing to an in-person class because you get personal coaching from me and my co-calligrapher, Erika. We love what we do.

Last month’s Salt & Honey workshop was a blast. We had a great time in such a gorgeous space with amazing food provided by The Patisserie. My mouth is watering and I have a sudden craving for toasted coconut cake just thinking about it.

And of course a place card with their name written on it in rose gold. Naturally.

Those cakes were divine. I may have had a couple slices. Of each.

We had a dude show up!! Haha. Usually I have one. Guys who sign up for calligraphy workshops are very smart. They get to learn something new and they’re always outnumbered. ;)

I was just so impressed at how passionate everyone was about letters, how much they learned in such a short time and how many beautiful marks were made!

Modern Calligraphy: In-Person Workshop in SLC, UT

I’ll be teaching a calligraphy workshop this weekend in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah! I’m so excited to be teaming up with the awesome Salt + Honey Market to teach a beginning pointed pen class. It’ll be downtown at the Charcoal Loft from 2-5pm this upcoming Saturday, March 12, 2016.

In the pointed pen workshop, I’ll be teaching the essential foundations to modern pointed pen calligraphy to make it graceful and readable. The workshop includes:

Calligraphy kit (2 holders, 4 nibs, ink, pencil, handout and notepad as seen here)
3 hours of instruction
Drinks & refreshments
Swag bag

I’ve been teaching calligraphy online and off for 5 years. Righties and lefties are both welcome.

The workshop starts from ground zero. If you’re coming with some experience, let me know at the beginning of class. I’ll have you work on some more challenging work during instruction time.

Class sizes are small enough that I make rotations around during open practice to answer questions, physically adjust you to help with your positioning and encourage and critique your work. I look forward to meeting you on Saturday. SIGN UP HERE.

Calligraphy: Fresh Living

I was on TV last week! I forgot to really talk about it, but here it is! We had a great time talking calligraphy and why it’s so nice to have the skill on-hand.

I feel like I cheated on KSL’s Studio 5 by going on Fresh Living, but I had a great time showing Debbie and Casey the ropes of the pointed brush.

Local Calligraphy Workshops Coming Soon!

Hey y’all! I’ve been partying it up in the sort-of sunny Las Vegas this weekend with fellow calligraphers. It’s been a blast learning new techniques on gilding, style and color.

I’ll be teaching this week in Salt Lake City with the lovely Valarie Williams. We’ll be doing a double-header calligraphy workshop! We’ll include pointed-pen basics and how to make your work pop with color-blending and flourishing. Dinner and materials are included.
