Guest Post + Printable by Carrie of Bedtime Tales

Thanks everyone for all of the well-wishes here & on twitter! Your kind words have made my week. Felix & I are doing well (he’s currently asleep on my chest), I’ll give a full update on Monday. Also, a huge thanks to Carrie of Bedtime Tales for offering her talents with a guest post and a printable! I’ve known Carrie since my college days in ’06. She’s such a kind, creative person. Penelope & I will definitely be doing this project soon.

Since Melissa introduced me to blogging, I began to explore the “blog world” a little deeper and I found that it is a wonderful thing to share beautiful, personal art online.  So, once my artsy sister, Becka, started her own blog, I jumped aboard with both feet. Now, after almost a year of craft-blogging, I can say that I find the free-sharing of creative ideas and projects more satisfying than ever!

My sister and I run a blog that fits well into the “creative living” category, posting about family recipes or DIY projects.  However, our personal specialties are found in bedtime toys and tales (hence our blog title, Made by Bedtime tales).  Becka likes to create cuddly, homemade stuffed animals and dolls.  I love to capitalize on original stories and illustrations for my kids.

Our dream is to one day sell handmade, ornate, small wooden puppet stages that you can share with your children at bedtime.  Until Becka and I get that dream up and running, however, we’d like to share with you a small, printable puppet stage pattern!

I’ve seen a number of online patterns for “green” doll houses made out of recycled cardboard boxes.  Well, this is a similar idea here, only we’ve designed a way to make a puppet stage out of an old, empty kleenex box and some cardstock.  This pattern comes with some printable puppets that attach to popsicle sticks and a funky ad-libs script for your own fun, family-night puppet show.

So, please enjoy the FREE printable pattern ;)

And thank you, Melissa, for all the years of free printables, tutorials and fun DIY projects!

iPhone Case Pattern 2.0

I threatened that I would post iPhone case tutorial nearly a month ago and here I am finally getting around to actually doing it. I really liked the old case that I had, it was just slightly impractical to had an unprotected phone to Penelope when she wanted to play her games. I decided that I needed to have a case that could stay on and actually protect my phone from grubby little hands. When I decided to embark on my noble quest, our computer was out of commission, so any designing I did was the old school way with a ruler and a pencil. That method took forever. Also, I kept running into wall after wall of design flaws. BLERG.

After I got my computer back and I had a great brainstorm session with the hubs, I completed the pattern. It’s pretty awesome, if I do say so myself.

Doesn’t the corsetted back look hott?

The pros to this case:

  • Penelope can’t press the home button, because she can’t see it. So, she’s stuck watching her little videos or playing her games and can’t post random tweets from my phone.
  • The leather makes for a better grip. It’s not going to slip out of mine or Penelope’s hands.
  • The phone is protected from minor bangs and drops.

The cons to this case:

  • It’s sewn in. So if you have to take it to the Apple store (which I do), you might need to un-pick the sewing. No big deal, but slightly annoying.
  • the sides of the case don’t lay flat. Although, time and scoring the inside of the leather remedies this problem.

It’s been about 3 weeks since I’ve had the case on my phone, and I really like it a lot. I feel like it’s protected all the time and it just looks funky fun. I get comments on the stitching ALL the time. If you’re looking to cover your iPhone, I hope you give this little tutorial a try. Click on the Download button below to download. Enjoy!

Easter Egg Basket Printable

I just can’t believe that Easter is this weekend! Does anyone else feel completely unprepared for the weekend festivities?

My lovely neighbor, Susan, kindly reminded me that it was Easter this weekend and that an Easter printable would be a good idea. I agree! I think y’all need something festive to adorn your Easter spread this weekend. So, with much excitement, I present to you a new freebie!!

Isn’t it so cute?!? It’s the perfect size for chocolate goodies, a hard boiled egg or (my favorite) a generous handful of Starburst Jelly Beans. The finished dimensions measure about 4.5″ x 2.25″ x 2″. All you have to do is print out on cardstock, cut, score, tape and fill! You’ll want some decorative ribbon to tie the tops together and maybe some Easter grass to use as filling. I didn’t have any grass, so I just cut thin strips of tissue paper. I really like how the tissue paper looks. Give it a try sometime!

I really hope you enjoy this printable and USE IT! I plan on using these for place settings for dinner this Sunday. Oh, and if you don’t celebrate Easter, it’s sort of holiday neutral, so feel free to use it for anything. Ever! Click on the button below to download for free. Hope you enjoy!!

Rainy Day Cloud Box Download + Thoughts

Cloud Box

Every once in a while I stop thinking about myself and think of others for a moment or two. Since Chris and I have been out and about the last four months the “every once in a while” is turning into “never”.

I see these boxes at events and weddings all the time. I really like how they close, forming a shape (usually a heart) that pops out. The problem with these boxes is that they’re white. Plain. Boring. I was trying to think outside the box (I didn’t stray far at all) for the shape of the top. Hearts are overdone, butterflies are not my style and stars are SOO last month. I like clouds. Clouds are a bunch of circles put together. I like circles, too. But how would I tie in the clouds with treats? After a few hours of brainstorming this is what Chris and I came up with:

Most clouds have a silver lining. This one has chocolate.

Click on the image above to download IS•LY’s newest freebie. I have one request: would you please print at least one, fill it with chocolate and give it to someone who might be having a bad day? I’m not sure who to give mine to, but I’ll think of someone and let you know.

You are SO Indie Card. . .

Indie Father's Day Card

I’ve been kicking this idea for a card for a while now, and finally I’ve mustered the motivation to do it. Yup, My middle name is procrastination.

I’ve noticed a SERIOUS moustache trend about the internet/indie crowd recently, and I wanted to tell Christopher that he’s a very cool dad. I really made this card just for him, but I’m sure there might be some dads out there that are cool, too. Maybe this would be a good last-minute card. Although I’m giving this card to Chris for father’s day, there’s no reason you couldn’t send a cool man in your life a little love any day of the year.
