A Very Happy Birthday Giveaway! CLOSED

CONGRATULATIONS!! We have a winner!! Thank you all for your sweet wishes and thoughtful comments! I loved how so many of you want to learn calligraphy for service-oriented purposes.

I chose sort of randomly. I just scrolled to a random page of comments and picked my favorite (because it’s my birthday and I can). I love that Meghan wants to do things for others. So I chose her.

Meghan’s comment: I will use my art of writing calligraphy to personalize 2014 planners and notebooks and have a sale in my school for the benefit of the families who were affected by the flood and the earthquake here in the Philippines. My schoolmates can get personalized items with their calligraphed names on them; they also helped put smiles on the victims’ faces.

      Hi!
Happy Birthday, and thanks for this giveaway! I would use this calligraphy gift to have fun getting practice, and to pretty-up envelope addresses and cards for starters. I love your ‘Happy Birthday to ME’ writing up at the top of this post.

wow! this is amazing.. to answer the question what would i do with calligraphy as a hobby:: the truth is, i already love lettering, and have used it as an outlet for awhile. recently people have asked me if they can buy certain things i make, and it’s caught me by surprise & i’ve frozen on it.. it’s intimidating to open myself up to creating things for others to see. 100% out of fear, i’ve dragged my feet until recently – & basically have decided to just step out & try.. i have been asked to work on projects, and would REALLY love to know the basics of calligraphy, how to be consistent, and legible, and really just how it works- because this has been my own thing, and not something i have ever had outside training in – i would really just love the opportunity to grow! this is what led me to find you, i found your link through lindsay letters, but it turns out i’ve followed you on pinterest for awhile.. i really have no idea if my “hobby” will become anything, but either way – i just love the beauty, and expression of words, and letters & creating a visual that ties it all together. whether it’s to create things for others, or just continue doing things for myself as an “outlet” – i would love the opportunity to grow in this – to learn more & become more confident in my abilities. i follow you on pinterest, instagram & facebook under the name @emilyhodges & i will make sure to post a link to your blog on each of these.. thank you so much!

    10. Stephanee M. says:

I’ve always been very fascinated by calligraphy, but recently I’ve been wanting to move from fascination to actually learning the art form.
Going to college in the Midwest, away from my family and friends in California, makes letter writing a must. Learning calligraphy would make letter writing and little surprise gifts that much more exciting for me and (hopefully) for those who receive them!

    11. Maan Agsalud says:

I’ve always been a lover of type and hand lettering. Despite of my heavy hand and the lack of skill, I really want to learn. I practice even if a lot of my stuff looks very shitty. I embrace the ugliness of it all, hoping that one day, my writing will be beautiful. Given the chance to do better calligraphy, I’d make writing more personal again. I’ll write more letters to friends- long ones. Write simple notes and heartfelt cards even if there is no occasion. I want to breathe life to letters with every new stroke and every new line I write. I want to make letters dance on paper. :D

    12. lulu says:

happy birthday! if i win, i’d use the kit for my handwriting project – it is my commitment to learn and promote the art of handwriting and calligraphy (www.crafttillyoudrop.wordpress.com).

I would use the set for my husband. He has been wanting to learn calligraphy for a long time… But we haven’t had the time for classes or money to invest in nice pens/ink for him. His birthday is coming up (11days) and it would be a huge surprise!

I love art and join Art workshops thanks to my best friend Meghan Sevilla who actually entered here as well. She encourages me to join workshops with her for she is the more artsy one than me. If i win your Calligraphy Kit, I plan to give it to my best friend Meghan Sevilla for her BIRTHDAY on December 18. It’s not what I would do with the kit, it’s what the kit would do for my friend. As you can see her entry thought about what the kit would do for other people and not simply for herself. I hope you give me a chance to win your Calligraphy Kit in order for me to make my best friend smile on her special day. She’ll be more than happy. And if I am able to give it to her for her birthday I willsure to share the moment with you. Happy Birthday to you as well! And thank you for giving your time to read this comment.

To be really really honest, I have found my passion to learn calligraphy from many calligraphers, and one of them is you.

This set and the workshop will really help me get started to carve my path out as a calligrapher, since where I live there is no way I can get any calligraphy tools and courses. I have a dream to become a multi-language calligrapher (starting with English and then slowly into Arabic, Chinese, etc.)

This calligraphy set is going to just cheer me up! I really have a vision to make my name as a calligrapher all over the world, and if I get this set, you will be like my angel who get me started!

Writing has in many ways become my life, and all of you amazing calligraphers have motivated me to initiate a start!

And I would really like to wish you the best birthday and many more! :)
