Thrifty & Chic: Containers

I have a minor obsession with containers. I was more than giddy with excitement when my mom bestowed upon me her spice of life jar from way back when, and I was personally hurt when Penelope broke it two days later. I also can’t help but lurk down the aisles at any store (thrift or otherwise) where cute containers might be present. After all, you can never have enough containers. Especially if you plan on entertaining the masses with little goodies that could possibly fit inside those containers.

Let me tell you about these containers. First, you’ve got the pitcher. I love this pitcher becacuse I inheirited it from my parents. It was part of their everyday ware that they got for their wedding. I love the cream colored ceramic & the mustard ring detail.

Second is the daisy glass container. I found this gorgeous jar for $1. I love the bright yellow & the daisy illustrations on the sides. So sweet. It’s the perfect container for sour lemon candies.

Third, we’ve got the ice bucket. I found the ice bucket at a high-end thrift shop just south of town, it was originally priced at $15, but on sale for $5. I had a hard time justifying buying it and felt all sorts of buyer’s guilt afterward, but that didn’t last too long. I’ve used it over and over at parties, family dinners, picnics, etc!

Do you like vintage containers? Do you collect/hoard them like I do? I’d love to see pictures! (Or maybe not. Maybe I’d get too jealous.)

Thrifty & Chic: Olive Goblets

I found these gorgeous olive glass goblets on a D.I. run today. I’m so excited about them, I had to share them with you right away.

I found the set of 6 for 75¢ each. Not bad, eh? I think these would be so perfect for a regal outdoor dinner party in September when the trees are starting to change. Don’t you? I think I’ll go ahead and pencil a party in for mid-september.

Thrifty & Chic: Week 1

I’m starting a new column here on IS•LY dedicated entirely about finding awesome things on the cheap. I really hope you enjoy reading it as much as I’m excited about sharing it with you.

Many of you who know me personally, know that I’m a very thrifty person. A lot of this comes from my mom; she’s the quintessential frugal woman. She learned as a stay-at-home mom while my dad was in school to make do & stretch every dollar. Even when the success fairy bestowed my parents with a comfortable living, my mom still made it a point to keep spending at a minimum and saving at a maximum.

I remember being so embarrassed when my mom would take me thrift shopping for clothes, etc. I just wasn’t as creative back then, and now I’ve made a complete 180! I just itch for any chance to go and peruse the aisles for hidden treasures. This Saturday I went with Susan on a sans-kids thrifting excursion. She was looking for a desk, and I was looking for a side table. Neither of us were successful finding exactly what we were looking for, but we still scored some awesome goodies anyway.

These shoes might be the reason why I’m starting this little column. I am so excited about them, I’d make up any excuse to share them with you. These shoes are all leather, made in Brazil (my favorite country ever), remind me of some shoes my mom used to have AND they were $3. Score? SCORE!

Are you the type of person to gossip to all of your friends about the good deals you find? If so, please consider me your closest friend and best listener. I want to hear all about it!
