Felix’s First Birthday

We kept Felix’s birthday celebrations really low key, just like I did with Penelope’s. Interestingly enough, we’re in a similar work situation for Felix’s first birthday as we were for Penelope’s first birthday. Except, we didn’t have to move 800 miles.

I had originally planned on doing a monkey theme, but that quickly changed to a bear/brown/red theme. Next year we’ll do monkeys. I sent out the above invitation via facebook and called it good.

I made chocolate cookies and chocolate cupcakes with sour cherry frosting. We had a little frosting station for friends and family to decorate their own cookies. I made my sisters-in-law blow up balloons and Shelley make the “I’m with adorable.” sign. I’d say I did a pretty good job of delegating party tasks, since I never delegate when I need to.

Felix had just eaten beets. His favorite food. I think he was pretty excited for the festivities to begin.

He was so funny! At first he didn’t know what to do with the cupcake on his tray. As soon as we fed him a couple bites, he was all over that thing. He even cried for another one just after he had finished his first. This little boy is just too cute for words.

I had planned on doing a little photo booth with Felix in the middle, but this was the only shot I managed to take of felix and family. My sister-in-law, Shelley, is on the left and my sister, Emily, is on the right.

I snapped this photo just after they left. He sure loves getting lots of attention. We had a great time getting together. It also just so happened that my Mother-in-law and my youngest sister-in-law were in town for the weekend, so having them around made the festivities extra special.

I made sure to record the cupcake carnage at his party and I’ve edited it down from 25 minutes to 2 and a half minutes. This video is mostly for my mom and dad who didn’t get to enjoy his big moment, but I thought y’all might get a kick out of it as well.

Felix went in for his one year appointment yesterday and he’s doing really well. He’s 99th percentile in head size and 60th percentile in weight and height. His head is really holding him back with a lot of his physical milestones (crawling, sitting, walking, standing). He just can’t balance with that giant head on his shoulders. We’ll have to take him into a physical therapist, but that shouldn’t be too bad. As any parent, I’m really eager to see him get up and move, but I am enjoying all of the cuddles and quiet time we’re having in the mean time. Felix really is the best baby. Ever. Happy Birthday, Feli-monster!

happy birthday felix! nice job with the party theme and those cupcakes. a big head’s bigger than a small one, right? we teased ansley that her head had to be in the 95th percentile so her brains will fit. :)

    2. this is awesome! He is adorable!!!! I love that face he’s making with the spoon. HAHA Happy bday Felix!

super cutie! love the video. whats the song in the background?

    6. Hahaha aww I love him attacking that cupcake. I had forgotten how close in age he is to my Olivia, she’s only just three months older than him! She’s a monster though, she crawled at 4 months and walked at 7. Not a joke. Add in the fact that she’s got a luscious head of hair and its easy to forget she’s not that much older than 1.
He just kills me how he loves that cupcake! Reminds me of my first one! Olivia sat there sucking the icing off the top of the cupcake and looking stoned, it was truly bizarre. No expression at all. Just buzzed out ‘sugarrrrrrrrr’ but she wasn’t excited, or eating it fast, or making a mess… just staring into space and sucking off that icing.

I cannot believe that he’s one already! Time seriously flies. I LOVE the video of him with his cupcakes. He obviously loved them!

Don’t worry about taking him to a physical therapist. Lots of babies have to do that, and they all turn out okay. As a speech therapist, I promise it’s just to help. I’m sure it’s just a little bit stressful, though!

Wow he is serious about his cake.

I love the “I’m with adorable” sign! He really is Super cute!! The cupcake all over him is so classic and hilarious. Love those messy 1 year old birthday moments.

Aww! I have to say I’m rather jealous of you and all your cuddle time with your little guy. Neither of my boys will sit still for a moment it seems, and now that the 6-month-old has been falling asleep on his own and not while rocking/nursing, I feel like I’m going through withdrawal!

I love simple birthday parties, and how about that sweet little Felix? Is he still an angel baby? I’ll never get over how good he was as a new baby when I came over. Thanks for all your ideas and advice last night! I just love you, and really think you are one of the most caring people I know!

    14. happy birthday Felix! I’m sure your head is so large because your brains are HUGE. My brother had a gigantic head and he grew into but it took a while. He’s 6’4″ now so all is well!!

    15. marissa says:

how you guys manage not to eat him up is beyond me. :)

I love it!!! What a fun video too, I’m great about getting picture taken, but so often forget the video. Thanks for the inspiration, I’ll have to remember to do this for Baby boy!
