Penelope the Artist

Penelope draws things and tells me to frame them or to make things inspired by them. I’m loving this phase in her life.

See the drawing above, the girl on the lower right? Penelope wants me to make me a dress with see-through sleeves and a button down front. Who is this girl? The next big designer.

And I need that dress in my closet.

She also made this rad creature. The ears all over her head are awesome.

And speaking of ears, we’re up to our ears in all of her awesome artwork. The dilemma we’re having is what to keep, how to keep it and how to clean out the extra art without hurting her feelings.

Right now we call her stash place (a flat storage drawer in my studio) her collection. We have her put her completed art projects in her collection and then we’ll typically sort it all out from there. A few pieces (like Penelope’s monster above) goes straight in a frame. Goodness I love this girl’s style.

I started teaching Penelope how to use my dip pen (top left). I love seeing her experiment with holding the pen different ways. It’s hard to see her scratch and pull the nib on the page, but she’s so willing to learn and I’m more than happy to teach her.

It’s a few days past her birthday, but I still plan on turning one of our utility closets into a special studio for her. I can’t wait to see that excitement on her face.

My daughter brings home artwork every day. I frame/save the “special” items and others I photograph to include in my annual photo books. Then I can recycle without guilt!

There’s an app called “ArtKive” that you can use to photograph and organize kids artwork. It then gives you the option of ordering photo books directly from the app. Handy!

That many-eared creature totally made me smile. Kids artwork is so sweet. I can’t wait for Adrian’s drawings to become more than just scribbles. He’s 3 1/2 and it seems like he should be getting there but he’s not…he does make some awesome lego creations though.

Takes after her creative parents! Good luck with the purging. I’ve always gotten busted trying to put extra artwork into the recycling bin. Then I have to follow it up with my incredulous look and “How did that get in there?!?!!”

I would buy a binder or scrapbook with some plastic sleeves to slip her smaller artworks into, that way you can save them, and look through them as she grows older!

Ahh they are all super cute. My son is 5 and I have stacks and stacks of his drawings I just love them so much. I wanted to make one of those lines in his room with cute wooden clothes pins to pin on them on.

So fun that you frame her artwork! I love it.

What about photographing it, and then getting one of those digital frames that scans through the photos you put on it?

Love this! I hope my little one is in touch with her artistic side. I plan to help foster her relationship with art at a young age.

How can she NOT be talented? And the ears all over the head…she is also “listening” to you! When I was in college for studio art, I went to an art show where the artists had every piece of artwork they’d ever made, from Kindergarten to college…it was awesome! Needless to say, I have saved every scrap of paper my son put his hand to…now he’s in college and thinks I’m crazy! No art show for him, I guess (hah!) TIP: I was told to Photo copy a drawing he did in 1st grade and use a high grade paper for framing. I’m glad I did as the original is 14 yrs old and very funky! The copy looks brand new and I still get compliments on it! Good Day to you, Madam!
